The ⁤Biden administration ⁢is exceeding its own limits on asylum ‌seekers

According to internal⁤ Department of Homeland Security data obtained by the Washington Free‍ Beacon, the Biden administration is allowing more asylum ⁢seekers⁣ to enter ‍the United States than‌ it initially stated it would.

Customs and Border Protection‌ (CBP) used the CBP One mobile application to waive through 45,662 migrants in July, averaging 1,473 per day. This is a significant increase‌ from the original limit⁣ of 1,000 daily appointments set after the ⁢end of the public health measure Title 42. Despite expanding the daily appointments to 1,250 and then 1,450, the data shows that immigration officials are still surpassing these limits.

These figures raise serious concerns about President Joe Biden’s proposed solutions to⁣ the‌ border crisis, which ‍has reached historic levels. In the 2022 fiscal year alone, the⁤ United ‍States witnessed over 2.76 million illegal border ⁤crossings, compared to the Trump administration’s annual‍ high of approximately 1.6 ⁣million. The surplus of approximately 23 migrants per day may seem small,⁢ but it adds up⁢ to nearly 8,400‍ annually, putting‍ strain on cities that are already struggling to accommodate and‍ support the influx of new arrivals.‍ For instance, New York⁤ City⁣ entered into a $275 million contract with ⁤hotels to shelter just 5,000 ‌migrants, and its mayor Eric Adams (D.) has stated‌ that the city has “no space” left.

Customs and Border Protection did not provide a‍ comment on the matter.

The ⁢CBP One app, which allows migrants to apply⁤ for asylum⁢ remotely on their phones, was introduced as a means to streamline the asylum process and⁤ bring‌ order‍ to the southern border. However, critics,⁢ including Republican Representative Clay Higgins (La.),‍ argue that it is merely a ‍”shell game” that reclassifies potential illegal border⁣ crossers and releases them into the U.S. interior.

In January, ⁤President⁢ Biden ⁣praised the CBP One app as part of a “new process” that is “orderly,‌ safe, and humane.” He ‍stated that those who are not ‌approved on the app would be⁣ immediately deported. However, the ⁢recent revelation⁢ of nearly 46,000 CBP ‍One admissions raises doubts about‌ the‌ effectiveness of this approach.

The increase in illegal crossings at the southern border in July, which saw a 50 percent rise compared to⁣ June,⁣ further highlights the shortcomings of the Biden administration’s efforts. Law enforcement apprehended over 130,000 illegal aliens along the Mexico border last month, a period that typically experiences a decrease in ‌crossings⁣ due ⁢to extreme heat.

“The short-term⁣ effects of the various⁤ legal ‍pathways Biden has⁢ implemented to curb illegal immigration‍ are failing,” said a senior Department of Homeland Security official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. ”One can only wonder what changes are coming to bring more would-be illegal aliens in legally. The slippery slope ends at ⁤open⁤ borders.”

Initially, the Biden administration celebrated a brief decrease in ‍southern border crossings after the end of Title 42, attributing ⁢it to the⁣ CBP‍ One app. However, a spokesman ⁤for Customs‍ and Border Protection ⁢later blamed ⁣the subsequent increase in⁢ illegal border ⁢crossings‌ on ‍”disinformation” spread‍ by smugglers who promise⁣ migrants‌ that ⁤they will not be deported.

Both Republican-led states and immigration ⁤activists have filed⁢ lawsuits against the Biden administration’s ⁤recent immigration policies, which could potentially‍ impact⁢ the future⁢ of the ⁢CBP One app. ‌Republicans‌ argue that it represents an illegal power grab, while liberal groups claim that‌ the⁣ penalties‌ for migrants who are denied on⁣ the app are too severe.

In⁢ July, a federal judge in California struck down many of ⁢the regulations governing the CBP One app. The Department of Justice has announced its intention to appeal the‍ ruling.
