Biden Admin Working To ‘Reassure’ Allies After Alleged Top Secret Documents Leak Online

The Biden administration is attempting to calm foreign allies in response to the leak of a series of purported top secret Pentagon documents. These leaked documents, which have been posted online, allegedly include U.S. intelligence on multiple governments and their roles in the Ukraine war, raising concerns among other countries about the security of U.S. intelligence. The Pentagon has so far declined to confirm or deny the legitimacy of the leaks, but it is coordinating with the Department of Justice to investigate further. The New York Times reports that the suspected breach of security has alarmed various countries regarding the safety of their intelligence in U.S. hands.

Both Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated in a press conference on Tuesday that they have contacted officials from other countries to “reassure them” and emphasize the United States’ commitment to safeguarding intelligence and security partnerships. Austin indicated that investigators have yet to identify the extent to which U.S. intelligence may have been compromised and when the breach may have occurred.

The leaked documents have made explosive allegations involving multiple governments. For example, the Mossad (Israel’s intelligence agency) reportedly instigated protests against the Israeli government. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has denied these claims. Other documents indicate that a NATO coalition group of special forces was in Ukraine, including troops from the U.S. and France. However, France has denied any presence of troops in Ukraine.

South Korea President Yoon Suk-yeol has been under attack from opposition parties following allegations that the U.S. government has been spying on South Korea. He has emphasized that the relationship between his country and the U.S. remains strong, but acknowledged that the Korean public is upset that the U.S. is not trusting South Korea.
