Biden Administration More Careful About Abortion Pill Ruling Than Nancy Mace
Republican Representative Nancy Mace, alongside Democrats such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, publicly encouraged the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ignore a federal judge’s ruling suppressing the FDA’s approval of abortion pills.
The mifepristone abortion drug regime was approved in 2000 without proper assessment of risks to mothers and their babies. Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk recently found that the FDA wrongfully approved it, even though the drug has contributed to over half of the nation’s abortions to date.
Mace encouraged the FDA to turn a blind eye to the ruling despite the agency’s already questionable guidelines for the fatal drug — the same agency responsible for speeding up approval of the Covid vaccine that caused her medical complications.
“This is an FDA-approved drug. Whether you agree with its usage or not, that’s not your decision. That is the FDA’s decision,” Mace said on CNN, repeating a similar sentiment on Twitter.
Mace bashed pro-life conservatives as being largely on the wrong side of the abortion debate. However, her position is not favored by most Americans. According to a March poll conducted by CRC Research for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, approximately 75% of Americans believe the FDA should have conducted studies primarily for minors before approving chemical abortions. Further, 56% of Americans find the FDA to be untrustworthy after realizing that the agency fast-tracked the approval of the abortion pill regimen using its accelerated drug approval authority, calling pregnancy a life-threatening illness.
The Biden administration warned the FDA against flouting the ruling, showing even more restraint than Mace. The Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, Kamara Jones, confirmed that the administration wouldn’t disrespect a binding decision but would instead continue the legal battle of shielding the FDA in courts.
SBA’s Vice President of Communications E.V. Osment stated that “Rep. Mace is poorly informed on the law and history as well,” and warned against leaders like Mace who encourage the FDA to ignore the law and science.
Mace’s approach to the abortion pill ruling differs significantly from that of the Biden administration. She appears out of touch with her party and the rest of the country.
The Biden administration is prioritizing a careful approach to the abortion pill ruling, which appears to be in compliance with the law, unlike Mace who has chosen to ignore the ruling.
