Biden administration not addressing ‘lived experiences of voters’ on economy: Sarah Bedford

The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Bedford argued that the Biden administration has not properly addressed the “lived experiences” that voters are going through in the current economy.

The economy is expected to be a major motivator for voters in the November presidential election, with the Biden administration touting the job creation achieved throughout his presidency. However, four months out from Election Day, Biden’s handling of the economy has not registered with voters, partly due to how inflation continues to affect them.

“I think that the Biden White House likes to pick these macroeconomic numbers, these big picture numbers, that show the economy on paper is doing well at the expense of addressing the lived experiences of voters,” Bedford said on Fox Business’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast. “And so that has obviously cost Joe Biden a lot of support. It’s really eroded his approval ratings. You might see some of that uncertainty about the election creep into the markets as we get closer to November.”

Bedford also addressed the turmoil occurring within the Democratic Party as members face the dilemma of whether to keep Biden as the presumptive 2024 presidential nominee after his performance at the debate raised serious questions on his ability to beat former President Donald Trump, his presumed opponent, come November. Bedford argued that the debate did not change much in the race, stating that Biden was already falling behind Trump and has continued to decline after the debate.

In order to regain momentum in the 2024 race, Bedford argued that Biden needs “some sort of big event” to give him a boost. She added, however, that “time is running out” for the president to change the momentum of the election.

The White House has made a vocal effort to dismiss questions on Biden potentially getting replaced by another candidate as the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating the president is “absolutely not” considering this as a possibility. The president himself has also released a letter to Democratic lawmakers telling them to “come together” and focus on beating Trump in the election.

On Monday, Biden made a phone call appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and said that Democrats who are concerned about his electability should “challenge me at the convention” next month. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22.
