The Biden administration presented the 2024 military budget, which proposes removing two Navy ships.

Biden’s administration has repeatedly called for more Navy vessels to improve the Navy’s ability to combat China’s fleet. Biden’s budget proposal proposes that 11 ships be decommissioned and nine new ones constructed.

Over the last several years, the Navy had set a goal to have 355 manned ships in its fleet. The goal set by military officials and experts has not been met. However, the Biden administration has proposed that the fleet be reduced to 298 ships, which is less than the current active number.

Congress expressed doubts about the proposed budget, which would result in two net losses. The Navy has been spared from the proposed cuts by Biden, and Congress members have repeatedly taken action to protect it.

Senator Roger Wicker (R.Miss.The top Republican on Senate Armed Services Committee said that Biden’s budget proposals are unacceptable. “sinking our future fleet.”

“No matter the favored phrase of the day — ‘divest to invest,’ ‘strategic pause,’ ‘capability over capacity,’ — the president’s defense budget is, in practice, sinking our future fleet,” He stated. “A strong naval footing begins with readiness today and a plan to grow our battle force and command the seas tomorrow. President Biden is risking our maritime security by declining to work toward either of these goals.”

Carlos Del Toro, secretary of Navy, stated that fighting climate change is his top priority and that the Navy will do everything in its power to combat it.

Del Toro visited the Bahamas to visit Prime Minister Philip Davis. He claimed that they spoke during their visit. “at length” About the climate crisis.

“As the Secretary of the Navy, I can tell you that I have made climate one of my top priorities since the first day I came into office,” Del Toro spoke at the University of the Bahamas. “The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team has been working on climate and energy security for a long time. And we are accelerating and broadening those efforts. We view the climate crisis much the same way as damage control efforts on a stricken ship. This is an all-hands-on-deck moment.”

Del Toro claimed that fighting the climate change would inspire the Navy’s development of new technologies. “maritime dominance and climate security.”

“There is not a trade-off between addressing climate security and our core mission of being the most capable and ready Navy-Marine Corps team,” He stated. “The exact opposite is true. Embracing climate-focused technologies and adopting a climate-informed posture strengthens our capability to stand by our partners and allies.”

Del Toro, who was releasing the Biden administration’s new budget, highlighted the importance of the Navy being used to combat climate change. He noted that the Navy will participate in many climate-related events.

John Kerry, the Special Presidential Ambassador for Climate Change, met Del Toro in Panama during the Our Oceans Conference. They discussed strategies to combat climate change. He said that the chief naval research would be hosting a conference on climate change, maritime pollution, and new energy in Florida.

“Climate change is one of the, if not the, most complex issues we have ever faced — as individuals, as nations and as a species,” He stated. “And that is why my team and I are so fortunate to be here in Nassau exchanging ideas with all of you.”
