Biden and Trump tied in 2024 race, 11% undecided: Poll
Trump and Biden Neck and Neck in Hypothetical 2024 Matchup
Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden are locked in a tight race for a hypothetical 2024 matchup, with Biden currently holding a slim 1 percentage point lead.
If the 2024 presidential election were held today, according to a new Harris-Messenger poll conducted by HarrisX, 45% of voters would choose Biden, while 44% would opt for Trump. The remaining 11% are still undecided. These results fall within the survey’s margin of error of plus or minus 2.1 points.
Majority of Voters Oppose Trump and Biden Running Again
Interestingly, despite their current leads, the majority of voters believe that neither Biden nor Trump should run in 2024. The poll reveals that 66% of voters do not think Biden should seek a second term, while 57% believe Trump should not run again.
However, despite this sentiment, both candidates are currently leading in their respective party’s primary races. Among Republican voters, 59% would choose Trump as their nominee, with Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as his closest competitor at 14%. On the Democratic side, 67% of voters would choose Biden, although 15% expressed support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Potential Face-Off Between Trump and Biden
If Trump maintains his significant lead and secures the Republican nomination, he and Biden will once again go head-to-head in 2024. In the 2020 election, Trump, as the incumbent president, lost to Biden, who received 306 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 232. Trump also trailed by approximately 7 million votes in the popular vote.
Age Concerns Surround Biden’s 2024 Odds
One factor that could potentially impact Biden’s chances in 2024 is his age. At the end of a second term, Biden would be 86 years old, raising concerns among voters. A recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll revealed that 77% of people believe Biden is too old to effectively serve another term as president. Prior to Biden’s election in 2020, 62% of voters expressed concerns about choosing a candidate over the age of 75. However, these concerns did not prevent Biden from winning the election.
The latest numbers from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicate a heightened level of concern regarding Biden’s age.
