Biden’s approval rating hits career low, worst in 15 years
President Biden’s Approval Rating Hits Record Low
President Joe Biden’s approval rating has plummeted to its lowest point since taking office, falling behind even former President Donald Trump’s worst figures. According to a recent ABC News-Ipsos poll, only 33% of Americans approve of Biden’s performance, while a staggering 58% disapprove. These numbers pose a significant challenge for the commander in chief as he gears up for reelection in less than 10 months.
This latest poll reveals that Biden’s approval ratings are even lower than Trump’s lowest numbers, which stood at 36%. Trump experienced three instances of a 36% approval rating during his presidency, in July 2017, and in January and August 2018.
Not only has Biden fallen below Trump’s approval rating, but he has also reached his own lowest point since taking office. This marks the lowest approval rating for a president since George W. Bush in 2006-2008. In April 2021, Biden’s approval rating was at 52%, but it has steadily declined since then, with no net approval rating since June 2021.
During his time as vice president, Biden’s lowest recorded approval rating was 43% in August 2012, when he was running for reelection alongside then-President Barack Obama. Since August 2021, Biden has consistently received a net disapproval rating, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Meanwhile, Trump currently holds a 41% approval rating, with 53% of adults disapproving of his job as president. As the likely opponent in the upcoming general election, Trump’s approval rating at this point in his presidency was slightly higher at 44%, with 51% disapproving.
Despite these concerning poll numbers, Biden’s campaign and the White House have downplayed their significance, even in the face of multiple polls showing him trailing Trump in crucial swing states.
