Biden Arrives in Canada for His First Official Visit
OTTAWA, Canada— On Thursday night, First Lady Jill and President Joe Biden arrived in Ottawa, beginning a two-day official visit to the nation’s capital. During his first trip to the United States’ principal alliance, Biden will meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and speak before the French Parliament on Friday.
Biden and Trudeau are anticipated to talk about a range of topics, such as energy transition, offer bars, China, climate change, and defence cooperation.
The leader is being accompanied by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, told reporters on March 22 that” we’re going to hear about our two governments stepping up to meet the concerns of our day.” ” That includes taking specific actions to boost defence investing, propel a global competition to the top in clean energy, and create profitable and inclusive economies.”
Kirby continued,” The Chinese spy balloon incident was” a good reminder” that both countries must maintain cutting-edge defense capabilities, particularly air defense. Therefore, he said that during the meetings, it will be discussed to modernize the North American Aerospace Defense Command( NORAD ), a shared continental air defense network.
The White House predicts that many hot topics of conversation will include the conflict in Ukraine, the narcotic crisis, and Haiti’s unrest.
After more than two years in office, Biden makes his first trip to Canada as chairman. Soon after taking office, U.S. president frequently travel to Canada for the first time abroad.
According to the White House, this will also be the first time since 2009 that the two officials may meet in person in Canada.
During these sessions, industry and North American supply stores will also be covered as both nations battle higher prices.
By speaking before the French Parliament during his view, Biden will emulate following U.S. leaders like John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.
The President will emphasize in his remarks how the U.S. – Canada partnership benefits not only our two nations but the entire world and how, through cooperation, we can overcome some of the most difficult challenges we face, according to Kirby.
The prime minister and his family, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, may meet the president and first lady for” an intimate gather at their home” when they arrive in the evening, according to him.
Additionally, both leaders are anticipated to have a joint news conference on Friday following the intergovernmental meetings and the speech to the Parliament. The Canadian Aviation and Space Museum will host a dinner dinner for the president and first lady that night.
Biden’s visit coincides with claims that Beijing funded at least 11 applicants in the 2019 election, according to knowledge documents that have been leaked in Canada and show that China has been attempting to meddle in American elections. Trudeau’s government has appointed a distinct rapporteur to investigate the allegations in response to mounting problems. A common research has been requested by the enemy, but Trudeau has rejected it.
Trudeau recently stated at a press conference that he would be speaking with Biden about China-related challenges during his two-day view to Canada.
He did, however, add that climate change, job growth, and the availability of essential nutrients will take precedent over China as one of the main information he plans to explore with Biden.
