Biden Awards Football Trophy to Air Force Academy
President Biden Awards Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to Air Force Academy
It’s a win for the Air Force Academy as President Joe Biden awarded them the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy for their football victories against their U.S. service academy rivals. The team gathered in the White House’s East Room to receive the prestigious award.
Biden praised the academy for embodying the values of duty, teamwork, service, and excellence, which are essential to the soul of the nation. He commended the team for their outstanding performance and contribution to the country.
The Air Force Falcons had an impressive record of 10-3, beating both the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy during last year’s collegiate football season. They also won against Baylor University 30-15 in the Armed Forces Bowl, which Biden said was the coldest bowl game in history at 11 degrees.
The Air Force Falcons have won the trophy 21 times, compared to 16 for the Navy Midshipmen and 9 for the Army Knights. The competition among the service academies began in 1972, and it has become a tradition to award the trophy to the winning team.
