Biden applies ‘MAGA’ tactics in Boebert’s Colorado district
The Biden administration’s familiar playbook: A visit to Colorado
President Joe Biden is set to make a trip to the Centennial State, where he will tour wind tower manufacturer CS Wind and discuss his economic policies, known as “Bidenomics.” However, there is another topic on the agenda.
What to know as OPEC+ considers extending or deepening supply cuts through 2024
CS Wind happens to be located in the district of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), a fact that the White House has highlighted in its event preview.
“The president will emphasize how self-described MAGA Republicans like Representative Lauren Boebert are jeopardizing investments, jobs, and opportunities,” reads the event description.
This aspect of the trip, which focuses on the threat posed by Republicans and invokes former President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again,” is a strategy that Biden employed during the 2022 midterm elections and his successful 2020 White House bid.
The term “ultra-MAGA” Republicans emerged from a six-month study conducted by Democratic messaging expert Anita Dunn, which the White House unveiled in early 2022 and extensively used throughout the campaign.
Shining a spotlight on Trump and Trump-aligned GOP members may also serve as a way to divert attention from Biden’s own struggling poll numbers. Since the August 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, the president’s approval ratings have mostly remained in the low 40s, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Biden’s approval rating on the economy, the focal point of Bidenomics, is even worse, standing at just 38%. This has frustrated the administration, as they emphasize that inflation has subsided and unemployment remains near historic lows. Nevertheless, the strategy of criticizing Trump has proven successful thus far and could be effective again in 2024.
Republicans mocked Biden’s low-key “basement Biden” approach in 2020, only to witness him defeat Trump in the White House. In the 2022 campaign, where Biden primarily focused on the threat of ”ultra-MAGA” Republicans, Democrats exceeded expectations.
Targeting Boebert could be an extension of this approach. Since entering Congress in 2021, the fiery representative has courted controversy, including being ejected from a musical in September for causing a disturbance while vaping and being fondled by her date. Boebert narrowly won reelection in 2022 and faces a tough race next year.
However, Republicans, including Boebert herself, are working to shift the spotlight back onto Biden and use the “Bidenomics” tagline against the White House.
“Families in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District are being crushed by so-called ‘Bidenomics,'” Boebert stated ahead of the visit. “Under his watch, credit card debt, inflation, groceries, and gas prices have all reached record highs. These soaring prices are squeezing working-class Coloradans and rural America.”
The Republican National Committee sent out an email blast claiming that since Biden took office, food prices have risen by 20.9%, rent by 18%, and electricity by 24.7%.
During a Monday press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended Biden’s record.
“We will continue to carry out the work that the president set out to do, including discussions on supply chains and the economy,” she said in response to questions about Biden’s polling challenges. “We have been highlighting the president’s global leadership, particularly in the Middle East. That is our focus. That is my focus. I cannot comment on people’s decisions.”
However, reports suggest that Biden is toning down his emphasis on “Bidenomics” and instead refocusing on highlighting the differences between himself and Trump.
During Biden’s visit to Colorado, Boebert may serve as a stand-in for Trump, as the president looks back at the successful strategies employed in 2020 and 2022.

Will the Biden administration’s strategy of targeting Republicans and emphasizing the threat they pose yield the desired results in terms of rallying support for their economic policies
Viewed as a continuation of this strategy. Boebert, a strong Trump supporter, has been a vocal critic of Biden’s policies and has advocated for conservative values and limited government intervention. By highlighting her district and suggesting that her actions are detrimental to investments, jobs, and opportunities, the Biden administration aims to portray Republicans like Boebert as a hindrance to the progress and prosperity that Bidenomics promises.
The focus on OPEC+ and the consideration of extending or deepening supply cuts through 2024 is an interesting addition to the agenda. This move by the Biden administration shows a commitment to addressing the pressing issue of rising energy prices and the impact it has on the economy. The decision made by OPEC+ will have significant implications for the energy sector and consumer prices, making it a crucial topic of discussion.
By combining the discussion of Bidenomics with the threat posed by Republicans and the focus on energy policy, the administration aims to present a comprehensive narrative of their economic plans and the challenges they face. This visit to Colorado serves as a platform for Biden to communicate his vision to the public and rally support for his policies.
However, it is worth noting that while this strategy may have worked in the past, there are no guarantees for future success. Biden’s approval ratings have been relatively low, and the economy continues to be a point of concern for many Americans. The administration’s efforts to address these issues and shift the blame onto Republicans may not resonate with all voters, especially those who are experiencing the effects of inflation and rising prices firsthand.
As the Biden administration embarks on this visit to Colorado, they must carefully navigate the messaging and ensure that their actions align with their promises. While targeting Republicans and emphasizing the threat they pose may be a familiar playbook, it remains to be seen whether it will yield the desired results. The upcoming discussions on OPEC+ supply cuts will also be closely watched, as they hold the potential to significantly impact the economy and consumer sentiment.
Ultimately, this visit to Colorado presents an opportunity for the Biden administration to showcase their economic policies and address the concerns of the American people. As the president engages with stakeholders in the wind tower manufacturing industry and discusses the implications of OPEC+ decisions, it is essential that the administration strikes a balance between highlighting their achievements and acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead. Only time will tell if this familiar playbook proves effective once again.
