Biden Calls For Republicans To Face ‘Pressure,’ Claims He Supports 2A In Renewed Gun Control Push
President Joe Biden is calling on Americans to pressure Republicans to pass tougher gun control legislation, including an assault weapons ban. The president made his remarks during an event in North Carolina, where he condemned Republicans for blocking his gun control agenda.
During his speech, Biden expressed his support for the Second Amendment but noted that the constitutional right has limits. He emphasized that citizens are not allowed to own automatic weapons, machine guns, flamethrowers, and many other weapons. Biden questioned why such weapons are permitted on the streets and in schools.
Biden: “I’m a Second Amendment guy…everybody thinks somehow the Second Amendment is absolute! You’re not allowed to go out and own an automatic weapon. You’re not allowed to own a machine gun. You’re not allowed to own a flamethrower!” pic.twitter.com/6HQoQtv9R7

The renewed focus on gun control comes after a shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville, in which six people, including three children, were killed. The shooter, who identified as a man despite being female, legally purchased seven guns from five stores. Biden’s calls for tougher gun laws are part of his ongoing efforts to enhance background checks on gun buyers without the need for additional legislation.
At the same time, the White House is concerned about the dangers posted by individuals suffering from mental illnesses. Authorities disclosed that the Nashville shooter was receiving treatment for an undisclosed condition. The shooter was also autistic, according to a source close to her family, but described as “high-functioning.”
Police found a manifesto and a detailed map of the school in a search of the shooter’s parents’ home, leading authorities to describe the attack as a “targeted attack,” although they are yet to reveal the motive behind the shooting.
