Biden labels Xi a dictator post US-China talks.
President Joe Biden didn’t hold back when he referred to Chinese leader Xi Jinping as a “dictator” during a recent fundraiser event in California. This comment came shortly after State Secretary Antony Blinken’s visit to Beijing to improve U.S.-China relations.
Biden highlighted the embarrassment caused to Xi by the recent incident involving a Chinese spy balloon. The balloon, which had strayed off course and entered U.S. airspace, was shot down by the U.S. military. According to Biden, Xi was unaware of the balloon’s presence, which added to his humiliation as a dictator.
Beijing Talks
The President’s remarks followed a “robust conversation” between Blinken and Xi in Beijing on June 19. Both sides acknowledged the importance of stabilizing the tense relations between the two nations.
While Xi expressed satisfaction with the progress made during the talks, Blinken revealed that the Chinese communist regime refused to resume military-level exchanges.
Prior to his visit, Blinken emphasized the importance of moving past the spy balloon incident and restoring stability in U.S.-China relations. He stated that it was time to close that chapter and focus on the future.
Blinken’s visit to Beijing was initially scheduled for February but was postponed due to the detection of a suspected Chinese spy balloon flying over the continental United States.
The balloon was sighted over Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Venezuela. The Chinese regime claimed that both the balloon shot down by the United States off the South Carolina coast on Feb. 4 and the one detected over Latin America were non-military assets that deviated from their intended course.
China Rejects Resuming Military Hotline
Despite Blinken’s efforts to raise the issue during his visit, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime has refused to resume direct military communication with the United States.
Blinken acknowledged that China has not agreed to move forward with the resumption of military exchanges, emphasizing the importance of restoring those channels of communication.
As tensions between the two nations continue to escalate, Beijing has consistently resisted U.S. attempts to establish open lines of communication to mitigate potential conflicts.
According to Reuters, China’s leaders have declined or ignored over a dozen requests for dialogue from the Pentagon and approximately 10 working-level engagement invitations from the U.S. side since 2021.
This includes the incident in February when a U.S. military jet shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon over the United States.
