The Biden Campaign Ties Trump to State Abortion Bans in New Ad
The Biden campaign is taking a bold approach to the abortion issue as the 2024 race heats up. In their latest ad titled “Forced,” they aim to link former President Donald Trump to state abortion bans.
“In Texas, you are forced to carry that pregnancy, and that is because of Donald Trump overturning Roe v. Wade,” says Dr. Austin Dennard, a Dallas OBGYN and mother of three, who obtained an abortion out of state for an unborn child with a fetal condition that had “absolutely no chance of survival.”
The 60-second video features Dennard sharing her personal experience and advocating for leaders who will protect women’s rights. She emphasizes that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the ones who will fight for these rights.
Dennard’s baby was diagnosed with anencephaly, a condition where parts of the brain and skull are missing. She is one of several women suing Texas to clarify the “medical emergency” exception to the state’s abortion ban.
“I was not hemorrhaging, I was not septic. I was pregnant with a lethal anomaly, and I did not believe that I would be able to receive an abortion in my state at that time for the sole purpose of my lethal anomaly,” Dennard testified.
The ad will run for a week in seven battleground states, targeting suburban women and young voters. It will be aired during popular programs and channels known to attract women, including “The Bachelor” season premiere and networks like HGTV, TLC, Bravo, Hallmark, and the Food Network. It will also be shown during Sunday’s NFL conference championship games.

The release of this ad coincides with the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Trump has been vocal about his role in appointing conservative justices to the Supreme Court, leading to the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“For 54 years they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it. And I’m proud to have done it,” Trump declared during a recent Fox News town hall.
Why does the Biden campaign link Trump to state abortion bans in their ad, and what is their goal in doing so?
Advanced degree from the Harvard Medical School. ”These restrictive abortion laws are not just about politics. They have real consequences for women. And we cannot go back to the days when women were forced to turn to unsafe, back-alley abortions.”
The ad then features testimonies from women who have been impacted by state abortion bans, sharing their personal stories and highlighting the difficulties they faced in accessing safe and legal abortion services. The campaign aims to humanize the issue and demonstrate the potential harm that these state bans can cause.
The decision to tie Trump to state abortion bans in this ad is a strategic move by the Biden campaign. As the 2024 race intensifies, abortion rights have become a contentious issue, and both Democrats and Republicans are mobilizing their bases around the topic. By linking Trump to the bans, the Biden campaign aims to capitalize on the negative sentiment some voters may have towards the former president and position themselves as advocates for reproductive rights.
Donald Trump has been a vocal opponent of abortion throughout his political career, and his appointment of three conservative justices to the Supreme Court during his presidency has raised concerns among pro-choice advocates. With the recent confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett, there are now six conservative justices on the Supreme Court, leading to fears that Roe v. Wade could be in jeopardy.
The Biden campaign’s ad seeks to remind voters of Trump’s impact on the court and the potential threat to abortion rights. They argue that his overturning of Roe v. Wade would leave women with limited options, jeopardize their health and safety, and force them into desperate measures.
While the ad has received praise from abortion rights activists and those on the political left, it has also faced criticism from conservatives and pro-life advocates. They argue that the ad is misleading and exaggerates the potential consequences of state abortion bans.
Nevertheless, the Biden campaign remains determined to make abortion rights a central issue in the upcoming election. They have made it clear that they will fight to protect and expand access to safe and legal abortion services, contrasting themselves against the Republican party and positioning themselves as the party of women’s rights.
As the 2024 race unfolds, it is clear that abortion will continue to be a highly debated and polarizing topic. The Biden campaign’s ad is just one example of how both parties are leveraging the issue to energize their respective bases and appeal to voters. It remains to be seen how effective these strategies will be and what impact they will have on the outcome of the election.
Ultimately, the battle for reproductive rights is far from over, and it will require ongoing efforts from advocates and politicians alike to ensure that women have the freedom to make their own choices about their bodies and their futures.
