Biden says new federal rule will improve air travel for Americans.

President Biden Takes Action to Improve Air Travel for Americans

President Joe Biden has announced two new reforms aimed at improving air travel for all Americans. In a speech at the White House, the president revealed that his administration will propose a new rule later this year requiring all airlines to compensate passengers for the cost of meals, hotels, taxis, rideshares, and rebooking fees when they are responsible for canceled or delayed flights.

Lowering Costs for Families

President Biden had previously directed the Department of Transportation to crack down on excess booking fees, with the aim of lowering costs for families. The new rule will build on this effort, ensuring that passengers are fairly compensated when airlines are at fault for delays or cancellations.

Comparing Reimbursement Policies

In addition to the new rule, the president also announced the launch of a new Transportation Department website, flightsright.gov. This site will allow passengers to improve air travel for Americans.”>compare airline reimbursement policies, making it easier to choose airlines that prioritize customer service.

Mandatory Compensation for Passengers

Under the new rule, all U.S. airlines will be required to compensate passengers with meals, hotels, taxis, rideshares, rebooking fees, food, fees in cash, miles, and/or travel vouchers whenever they are responsible for a cancellation or delay. This compensation will be in addition to a refund for the cost of the ticket.

“I know how frustrated many of you are with the service you get from your U.S. airlines,” Biden stated in his speech. “But then, we challenged them to do better. And now, we’re making it mandatory for them to compensate you when they’re at fault.”

The president’s reforms are a major step forward for air travel in the United States, and will help to ensure that passengers are treated fairly and with respect.
