Biden: COVID Emergency Will End “When the SCOTUS Ends It”
On Tuesday, President Biden left the White House to answer questions about his decision not to end the national Covid-19 in an emergency On May 11.
“What’s behind your decision to end the Covid emergency?” One reporter asked.
“The Covid emergency will end when the Supreme Court ends it,” Biden responded. “We’ve extended to May the 11th to make sure we get everything done.”
Biden had told Congress on Monday that he would end two emergency orders related to the Covid-19 Pandemic pandemic on May 11, 2023. This is three years after these orders were enacted.
In a Statement of Administration Policy, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), stated that Biden would be Extend One last time: Covid The national emergency was due to expire March 1. The public health emergency (PHE) was due to expire April 11.
These two emergency orders will expire on May 11.
According to the OMB, “An abrupt end to the emergency declarations would create wide-ranging chaos and uncertainty throughout the health care system — for states, for hospitals and doctors’ offices, and, most importantly, for tens of millions of Americans.”
Title 42, which was established by Trump in March 2020 and allowed immigration officials in time to expel migrants citing public health concerns, is one of the programs to be terminated when the emergency orders expires. Title 42 has been a priority for the Biden administration for many months.
According to OMB Title 42 could be removed “result in a substantial additional inflow of migrants at the Southwest border.”
