Biden DOJ Celebrates Less Arrests in 20 years

On Thursday, President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice released new data. But the DOJ appears to boast that they have the “Best Data” “number of federal arrests reached the lowest point in two decades” In Fiscal Year 2021, as if this were an accomplishment to be proud.

The Federal Justice Statistics report provides the numbers. It shows that “arrests by federal law enforcement agencies declined 35% from fiscal year (FY) 2020 to FY 2021, reaching the lowest level over the past two decades.”

COVID-triggered pandemic restraints were the reason, according to the report. “federal arrests declined 81% and cases charged in federal court declined 77%” Between March and April 2020, with an additional 25% decline in arrests and 20% reduction in cases charged, October 2020 to February 2021.

The latest statistics report also noted that lawlessness was evident in 10 of the fiscal years between 2011 and 2021. “the number of persons under federal correctional control declined 15%, from 410,887 to 350,543.” The left wanted to use COVID to free prisons and bring back more criminals before their sentences were completed.

However, it is not as though there was less crime in that time period or a decreased success rate in federal prosecutions. According to the DOJ report “about 9 in 10” Many defendants were convicted after being charged in federal district courts. Nearly three quarters (75%) of those convicted were sentenced for a median term of 37 months in prison.

Trump and Barr were working together to reduce crime in the wake pandemic. In July 2020, Operation Legend was launched in major U.S. cities. Operation Legend grew as more cities joined the Trump DOJ in order to prosecute violent criminals who were selling deadly substances.

Attorney General Barr said that the 2020 end-of-year report was “very encouraging.” “Operation Legend removed violent criminals, domestic abusers, carjackers and drug traffickers from nine cities which were experiencing stubbornly high crime and took illegal firearms, illegal narcotics and illicit monies off the streets. By most standards, many would consider these results as a resounding success—amid a global pandemic, the results are extraordinary,” He concluded. “When we launched Operation Legend, our goal was to disrupt and reduce violent crime, hold violent offenders accountable and give these communities the safety they deserve,” Barr stated.

The pandemic did not have the potential to cause a permanent decrease in federal law enforcement activities. Operation Legend was a great success and should have continued when Biden became president in January 2021. His administration, however, quietly ended the program despite its success.

In the roughly seven months Operation Legend was active, the DOJ made more than 6,000 arrests — 467 for homicide alone — while more than 2,600 firearms, 32 kilos of heroin, 17 kilos of fentanyl, 300 kilos of methamphetamine, 135 kilos of cocaine, and $11 million worth of illicit proceeds were seized.

Biden killed the program, even though it was intended to be. “a sustained, systematic and coordinated law enforcement initiative in which federal law enforcement agencies work in conjunction with state and local law enforcement officials to fight violent crime” Instead, they decided to hype up the lowest federal arrests over 20 years.

It’s not only bad that the Biden administration wants to be soft on crime; it’s also that they want to wear their leniency in the name some twisted idea. “social justice.”
