Biden Is Trying to Clear Out Club Gitmo

Joe Biden slowly but surely tries to clear Guantanamo Bay. The Cuban facility now has 32 detainees. Two brothers, who were taken to Pakistan by their fathers, are the latest to be released.

Remember, when Barack Obama ran for president, he promised to close GTMO his first day. It is not clear if he realized at the time that it would be difficult to fulfill that promise, but it was red meat for his voters who couldn’t see the benefit of the Cuban facility during America’s War on Terror. Joe Biden appears to be trying the same thing as Obama.

Like many other things the administration does, there is very little transparency regarding the release of detainees. Releases are often reported years after they occur. Biden’s claim to have the most transparent administration in history is a hollow one. Yesterday, I wrote about Majid Khan’s release Guantanamo Bay’s only American resident, he was released. Thanks to American taxpayer money, he was freed to Belize and can now enjoy a pleasant life in tropical paradise. I was unaware that I would soon see another report about the release of two more detainees, this time to Pakistan.

Abdul Rabbani and Mohammed Rabbani, two brothers, were detained at GTMO, but they were not charged with any crime. They were accused of running safe houses that were used by al Qaeda members including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, (KSM), who is the accused mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. After it was decided that their detention was not necessary, the brothers were repatriated back to Pakistan. The Department of Defense published the following statement Make a statement Their detention was no longer necessary to protect them against a “continuing, significant threat” The United States

“The United States appreciates the willingness of the Government of Pakistan and other partners to support ongoing U.S. efforts focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantanamo Bay facility,” The Pentagon stated.

Lloyd Austin, the Defense Secretary, had made it clear to Congress that he intends to return the Rabbani brothers back to Pakistan in January.

Americans weren’t informed about Majid Khan’s transfer to Belize earlier in the month until after the transfers were complete. Is Joe Biden working to close GTMO right now, or is that something most Americans don’t know? I’d be surprised if most Americans didn’t know that Joe Biden is working to close GTMO. Because they know this will be controversial, the administration is not promoting its efforts to do so.

I’d love to know if Joe Biden considers the War on Terror over. It is a waste of time. Liberals did not see the value of containing terrorists who tried to kill Americans. Although the interrogation methods used at the facility were controversial, the necessity to capture and isolate the alleged terrorists was there. They are so dangerous that many countries won’t agree to take them. Biden must find alternative prisons for the detainees. They can’t be released in America. I wonder if Biden will change the law and declare that the GTMO will be closed. After watching some of his foreign policies decisions, particularly the disastrous withdrawal form Afghanistan, I have no doubt that Biden will make bad decisions. Bob Gates, a former Secretary of Defense who served in both the George W. Bush Administration and the Obama Administration, was correct to say that Biden has consistently been wrong about foreign policy opinions all his career.

GTMO has been holding the Rabbani brothers since 20 years. It is not clear whether Biden will be capable of achieving his goal. GTMO to be closeGiven the terrorists who are still there,

Abdul Rabbani (55), and Mohammed Rabbani (53), were both arrested in Karachi by Pakistani authorities. They were then quickly transferred to U.S. custody, where they are accused of operating al-Qaida safehouses.

The Pentagon reported Thursday that Guantanamo still has 32 detainees. Of these, 18 are eligible to be transferred, nine are defendants in military tribunals and two are convicted.

We will see how many Biden releases during his term in office.
