Biden chuckles at border crisis, no visit planned.
President Biden Laughs Off Border Crisis
President Joe Biden was recently asked about the crisis at the U.S. southern border during a bike ride near his beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware. His response? Laughter. Biden claimed that the situation was “much better” than people thought, despite the fact that 83,000 migrants were apprehended last week trying to enter the U.S. illegally – the most in U.S. history.
Biden’s Border Policies Under Fire
Many critics and experts have pointed to Biden’s policies as the cause of the crisis at the border. The ending of Title 42, a public health statute used at the border during the pandemic to help stem the flow of illegal immigration, has led to a surge of migrants waiting at the border for entry. In fact, up to 700,000 people, including many from Central America, were waiting at the border in anticipation of its end.
Brandon Judd, president of a union for Border Patrol agents, said the total number of apprehensions topped more than 10,000 on multiple days last week. For context, former President Barack Obama’s DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said during an MSNBC interview in 2019 that 1,000 apprehensions of illegal border crossers “overwhelms the system” and that he could not “begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like.”
Ted Cruz Calls It “A Full On Invasion”
Senator Ted Cruz recently visited the border and declared it “a full on invasion.” He criticized the Biden administration for cheering on the crisis and wanting more people to come in, despite the body bags that are piling up.
