President Biden Recommends New COVID-19 Vaccine for Everyone
President Joe Biden announced on Friday that his administration will “likely” recommend that everyone receive a new COVID-19 vaccine. Speaking to reporters outside a pilates facility in South Lake Tahoe, California, Biden stated, “I signed off this morning on a proposal we have to present to the Congress, a request for additional funding for a new vaccine—that is necessary, that works.”
He further added, “And tentatively, not decided finally yet, tentatively it is recommended—it is likely to be recommended—that everybody get it, no matter whether they got it before.”

The president’s comments align with a White House official’s statement on August 20, where they indicated that the administration would encourage all Americans to receive a COVID-19 booster shot in the fall.
With the rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations and the spread of new variants, some businesses and schools have reinstated mask mandates. For example, Morris Brown College in Atlanta and the Atlanta University Center Consortium have implemented mask mandates.
In April, the government announced a $5 billion investment in the development of new COVID-19 vaccines and treatments through Project NextGen. The Department of Health and Human Services stated, “While our vaccines are still very effective at preventing serious illness and death, they are less capable of reducing infections and transmission over time.”
Moderna has reported that its vaccine is effective against the new “Eris” and “Fornax” COVID-19 subvariants. Additionally, Moderna, along with Novavax, Pfizer, and BioNTech SE, has developed a new version of the vaccine to combat the XBB.1.5 subvariant.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expects the vaccines to be available to the public in mid-September, pending approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). An independent CDC advisory committee will meet on September 12 to vote on eligibility guidelines for the new COVID-19 vaccines.
During a press briefing, CDC and FDA officials emphasized the importance of getting updated COVID-19 shots, as well as the flu shot and the recently approved RSV vaccine produced by GlaxoSmithKline. A CDC official stated, “Vaccination is going to continue to be key this year because immunity wanes and because the COVID-19 virus continues to change.”
Experts Caution Not to Give in to Fear
Amid the resurgence of mask mandates and increasing hospitalizations, health care experts are urging calm and caution against succumbing to fear surrounding new COVID variants. Priscilla Romans, a former nurse and current patient advocate, emphasized the negative impact of fear on people’s well-being. She stated in an interview with The Epoch Times, “I don’t know if this is real or not, but I do know that fear makes people sick.”
