Biden Orders More Troops to Taiwan

After failing to withdraw from Afghanistan and failing in dissuade Putin of invading Ukraine with the U.S., President Joe Biden has been sending more American troops to Taiwan to counter the growing aggression from Beijing.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration appears to be in transition. “markedly increasing the number of troops deployed to Taiwan, more than quadrupling the current number to bolster a training program for the island’s military amid a rising threat from China.”

Via WSJ:

According to U.S. officials there will be between 100 and 200 troops deployed to the island over coming months. That’s an increase of the roughly 30 that were present a year ago. The U.S. will increase the size of a training program it has chosen not to release as it aims to provide Taipei with all the necessary capabilities to defend itself against Chinese aggression.

According to data from the Defense Department, the number of American troops has fluctuated over the years. This includes special-operations forces as well as U.S. Marines. As China’s military power grows, the U.S. plans to increase its force presence on Taiwan.

The U.S. has increased its presence in Taiwan “part of a gathering U.S. push to help a close partner prepare to thwart a possible invasion by China,” something Biden administration hopes — if not needs — to succeed at after multiple embarrassments on the world stage. This is something the Biden administration hasn’t been able to achieve elsewhere.

Recommendation

Biden and his aides insisted that Afghanistan would not quickly fall to Taliban. It did. Biden and his administration believed they could convince Putin to not invade Ukraine. But then Russia did. Biden wants China to not smell the blood of American weakness.

The president is not able to express his position on the China-Taiwan issue in the same manner as other foreign fracas that Biden has been involved in. In a September interview “60 Minutes,” Biden declared That “yes,” The U.S. would defend Taiwan against an attack by China.

Biden also made this statement in May “yes,” To defend Taiwan against China, the U.S. military would be involved. Both times, the White House was forced to contradict the statements of the commander-in-chief and reiterate that the U.S. strategy remained unchanged. We will support Taiwan with training and support but not engage in combat against China.
