Biden selects Air Force Chief Charles Q. Brown as top US general.
President Biden Picks General Charles Quinton Brown as Top U.S. Military Officer
President Joe Biden has chosen General Charles Quinton Brown to become the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Brown, a former fighter pilot with experience in the Pacific, will be the second black officer to hold the position after Colin Powell two decades ago.
A Strong Understanding of Strategic Challenges
Biden’s appointment of General Brown follows his selection of Lloyd Austin as the first black U.S. Secretary of Defense. Austin recommended Brown for the position, citing his deep understanding of the strategic challenges facing the United States around the world.
- Brown helped lead the air campaign against ISIS
- He is well-versed in the challenges posed by the Peoples Republic of China
- He has a strong understanding of our NATO allies’ perspectives and capabilities
A Distinguished Military Career
General Brown, a self-described introvert, will replace outgoing Trump appointee Army General Mark Milley. Brown began his military career in the U.S. Air Force and quickly rose to become a fighter squadron commander. He has logged over 2,900 flying hours, including 130 combat hours, and even earned a spot as an F-16 flight instructor.
Stay tuned for updates on General Brown’s confirmation and his plans for leading the U.S. military.
