Biden chooses Neera Tanden for Domestic Policy Adviser, replacing Susan Rice.
President Biden Appoints Neera Tanden as New Domestic Policy Adviser
Exciting news from the White House! President Biden has announced that Neera Tanden will be his new domestic policy adviser, taking over from outgoing adviser Susan Rice.
Who is Neera Tanden?
Tanden has previously served as assistant to the president and staff secretary, and was nominated by Biden to head the Office of Management and Budget earlier this year. She has also worked as senior adviser for health reform at the Department of Health and Human Services under former President Obama.
As domestic policy adviser, Tanden will be responsible for driving the formulation and implementation of Biden’s domestic policy, from economic mobility and racial equity to health care, immigration, and education. She will be the first Asian American to lead any of the three major White House policy councils in history.
Controversy and Campaigns
Tanden’s nomination to head the Office of Management and Budget was withdrawn earlier this year after not getting support from centrist Senate Democrats amid controversy over her tweets, including one comparing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to the “Harry Potter” character Voldemort.
However, Tanden has also had her hands in campaigns, serving as director of domestic policy for the Obama-Biden presidential campaign and policy director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
New Appointments
In addition to Tanden’s appointment, Biden also announced that Stefanie Feldman, a longtime Biden adviser, will replace Tanden as assistant to the president and staff secretary. Zayn Siddique will be promoted to principal deputy of the Domestic Policy Council.
Overall, these appointments signal a continued focus on domestic policy from the Biden administration, with Tanden at the helm.
