In a spirited address to union ⁢workers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Labor​ Day, President Joe Biden highlighted his achievements and pushed back against critics ​who question⁢ his ability to seek a second term due to his ​age.

President Biden kicked off his remarks with a lighthearted joke, emphasizing that wisdom comes with age. He assured the audience that he has the experience‍ and determination to continue leading the country with their support.

The president’s⁤ comments ⁢were likely in response to a recent Wall Street ‍Journal poll that suggested a majority of voters believe he is too old to​ run for president again.

The ‍poll revealed that a significant majority of Democrats and voters overall believe President Biden, at 80 years old, ⁣is too old for a second term. Interestingly, former President‌ Donald Trump, who⁢ is 77 years old, received less⁣ criticism in this regard.

Additionally, the ⁤poll indicated that both candidates would⁤ be evenly matched in ⁢a potential‌ rematch ⁢of​ the 2020 election, with each garnering 46 percent support.

President Biden has ​consistently shown his⁢ support for⁤ labor unions and positioned himself as the most pro-union president in U.S. history.⁢ However, ​concerns have been raised‍ about his handling of the economy, particularly among blue-collar workers, due ‌to high inflation.

In​ Philadelphia, President Biden sought to change voters’ perception by drawing a ⁤contrast with‍ former President Trump, who‍ is currently‍ the frontrunner for ​the 2024 Republican‍ nomination. He highlighted that President Trump, like Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression, left office with fewer jobs than when he started.

Despite the hot ​weather, President Biden’s speech ‌in Philadelphia was ​energizing and reminiscent of a campaign-style address. However, he did experience a‍ few coughing fits during his remarks.

The president ‍expressed his gratitude to the union workers, emphasizing that his‍ administration is working to bring jobs back to the United States and ‌protect ​pensions.

President Biden also highlighted his ⁣economic ‌plan, ⁣which has resulted ⁣in ⁢the‍ creation of 13.5 million new‌ jobs, including 800,000⁤ in manufacturing.

Over the weekend, the president published ​an op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal ⁢Sentinel, defending his​ economic agenda and its benefits‌ for blue-collar⁢ workers.

He called on Congress⁣ to⁤ pass ⁤the ⁢Richard ​L. Trumka Protecting the Right ⁤to ‌Organize⁣ (PRO) Act, which aims to make it easier for workers to form unions ⁤and negotiate​ for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

Clash Over ⁤Jobs Growth

Last week, President Biden responded to President⁢ Trump’s claims about job growth during a speech in⁤ the Rose Garden at​ the White House. He highlighted that the U.S. economy added 187,000 jobs in August, surpassing expectations and indicating a resilient labor market.

President Biden proudly stated that his administration⁣ has created more ⁣jobs in two years than any president has ⁣in a single four-year term. He also​ emphasized the successful recovery of jobs lost during the pandemic.
