Joe Biden made an ignorant remark about the speed of U.S. airplanes, which stirred further questions about his cognitive abilities.

“We’re going to talk about commercial aircraft flying at subsonic speeds, supersonic speeds, be able to figuratively… if we decide to do it, be able to traverse the world in an hour, travel at 21,000 miles an hour,” Biden claimed.

According to scientists, an aircraft speed of 21,000 mph as touted by Biden would amount to “Mach32,” which is physically impossible in the Earth’s atmosphere. Currently, the fastest U.S. airplane, the F4 Phantom II, flies at speeds of just below 1,500 mph. Any object traveling at 17,500 mph would melt in the atmosphere, but Biden apparently wants to go faster than that.

“Imagine a world where you and your family can travel coast to coast without a single tank of gas, or a high-speed train close to as fast as you can go across the country in a plane: Take a look – Do you think China is waiting around to invest in this digital infrastructure on research and development?” Biden questioned. “I promise you they are not waiting.”

However, Biden appeared to suggest his $2 trillion infrastructure spending plan would make airplanes fly 14-times faster in defiance of the laws of physics.
