President Biden Hopes to See Chinese Leader at G20 Summit in India

President Joe Biden expressed his disappointment at the⁢ possibility ⁢of Chinese‌ leader Xi Jinping skipping the G20 summit ⁢in India. Reports ⁢suggest that Premier Li Qiang ⁢may attend the summit on behalf of Mr. ⁢Xi.⁣ Despite this, President Biden remains hopeful of ⁤a meeting ‍with the‌ Chinese leader.

“I am disappointed, but I am going to ⁢get ⁣to see ⁣him.”

No Official Comment from Beijing

Beijing has not officially⁣ commented ‍on the matter. President Biden is ⁢scheduled to travel to India from September ⁤7 to September 10‍ for the G20 summit in New ⁢Delhi. The summit ‍aims to bring‌ together leaders from major economies to address global issues.

The⁤ President ⁢did not ‌specify when his ⁢next meeting with Mr. Xi would take place. Their last meeting occurred⁣ on the sidelines⁤ of⁢ the G20 summit in Bali in 2022.

During a trilateral ⁣summit between the United‍ States, Japan, and South Korea, President Biden expressed his anticipation of meeting⁤ with Mr. Xi this fall.

“I expect and hope​ to ⁤follow up on our conversation in ‌Bali this fall. That’s my expectation,” he told reporters.

Indian ⁢PM Criticizes China’s​ ‘Debt Trap’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly criticized China⁣ during a ​recent interview. He⁣ spoke⁣ about forces exploiting other ‍countries’⁢ debt crises and capitalizing on their helplessness.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of guarding against‍ financial indiscipline⁤ and‌ highlighted the efforts of G20 countries ‍to address the debt‌ crisis faced by low-⁢ and ‍middle-income nations.

China ‍has faced criticism for its lending practices,⁢ particularly⁢ through the ​Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This initiative has​ been⁢ viewed as a means for the Chinese Communist Party⁢ to gain⁢ control of strategic assets in emerging ‍countries.

According to estimates, the ⁢Chinese ⁤regime⁤ has provided loans totaling approximately 0 ⁤billion to 22 developing countries⁢ from 2008 to 2021. However, some countries have struggled to repay these loans,⁢ leading to concerns about ‌debt distress.

Relations between India and China have been strained since the ​2020 ​border confrontation that resulted‍ in casualties ⁤on both sides. The conflict has⁤ led to a significant military ​buildup along the disputed border.
