Biden Says He Will Visit East Palestine’s Toxic Train Derailment Site ‘At Some Point’

Joe Biden, President of the United States, stated on Thursday that he would travel from Ohio to East Palestine (Ohio), in order to visit the scene at the February 3 train derailed and the subsequent environmental- and public health catastrophe.

Biden made the comment to reporters when asked by ABC News if they were planning to visit the town. Biden was on his way to lunch with Senate Democrats. reported.

Biden stated that he had been in regular contact with all Ohio officials, Republican or Democrat, much like in Pennsylvania. “I gave a bit of what I believe the answers to be, and we will be implementing a lot into the legislation.”

He said: “And I will also be there at some time,” Before abruptly turning his attention elsewhere. He did not give any details.

Biden’s remarks came just hours after Republican Ohio Governor. Mike DeWine encouraged Biden’s visit to East Palestine as concerns over their health and uncertainty about the federal government’s commitment to their safety increase.

DeWine: “He should come, there’s no question about it,” Submitted “Fox and Friends”, March 2. He must come. People want to see the president. He should be there.

Biden previously stated that he did not plan to travel to the village, where 5 000 people are affected by adverse health effects and displacement due the disaster.

Biden said, “At the moment, I’m still not,” to a group reporters last week as he was asked if he planned on going to East Palestine.

In his defense, the president stated that he had “a long discussion with my team regarding Zoom” and “have spoken to every major figure in Pennsylvania and Ohio.”

Biden said, “I mean we were there two hour after the train went to its final destination, two hours… so the idea that they’re not engaged simply isn’t there.”

Fox reported that DeWine had told Fox that he last spoke with Biden two weeks ago, when he was in Poland for his surprise visit to Ukraine. He was there. Promised $500 million in aid of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zeleskyy and to “reaffirm” his “unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy and sovereignty as well as its territorial integrity.”

Fox spoke to DeWine while in Poland and he called him directly. “I have spoken to him many times. “I do speak to the White House on issues and things that we are trying to accomplish.”

Fox asked the governor if he had any explanations for why he hadn’t turned up. The governor replied, “No.”

DeWine said, “I think now is the right time.” “The president must come. It is just important.”

Republican criticism has intensified since Biden traveled to Europe. Yet, he didn’t make the short trip to Northeast Ohio in the four weeks following disaster.

The growing discontent has been fuelled by the February 22nd visit of former President Donald Trump to the village to give food and water, and to show his support.

Rep. Bill Johnson (R.Ohio), who is the representative of the congressional district that encompasses East Palestine, attacked Biden at a press conference, calling it “past-time” for him to make the “short trip to East Palestine and show support for the 5,000 Americans who call this small, Appalachian village their home.”

He said, “You pride yourselves on your ‘Lunch Bucket Joe” nickname and your blue-collar Scranton roots in Pennsylvania. But Mr. President there is no place more blue collar than Northeast Ohio and no one more deserving to hear directly from their president than the residents of East Palestine.”

“They want comfort. They want to know that you care. And they want assurances that the federal government will continue cleaning up after they go.

Trent Conaway, East Palestine Mayor, has long criticised Biden’s inability to provide personal support or presence. Telling Fox’s Jesse Watters said that he was furious when he saw Biden in Ukraine, “giving away millions of dollars to people over there and to us.”

He said, “That was the biggest slap in my face.”

On February 16, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator (EPA) Michael Regan visited East Palestine for the first time. It was almost two weeks later that the incident occurred. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg arrived in Palestine nearly three weeks later.
