Biden Tells Kimmel He Has Hope For The Future Because Of All The ‘Biracial Couples’ On TV

President Joe Biden told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel that he has hope for the future — at least in part because of the number of “biracial couples” that he sees on television.

“I’ve never been so optimistic in my life, though, and I’ll tell you why,” Biden began.

“Why are you so optimistic?” Kimmel raised his voice dramatically. “It makes no sense.”

“No, it does,” Biden insisted, adding, “Look at the kids! Look at the young people — best educated, least prejudiced, most giving generation in American history.”

But then Biden appeared to lose track of the direction he’d been traveling, and began to talk about “biracial couples” in television commercials.

“Turn on the television — turn on — no, I’m serious!” Biden continued. “No, I’m serious, you turn on the TV, look at the ads, when’s the last time you saw biracial couples on TV? When’s the last time you saw the way — I mean, people are selling products — they do ads to sell products. And they sell products when people — they appeal to people.”

According to Jerry Dunleavy, a reporter for the Washington Examiner and self-described “connoisseur of Biden-isms,” Biden apparently meant to say that seeing biracial couples on television was just an example of how far America has come.

As a connoisseur of Biden-isms, I can explain this bizarre quote. Biden has things he thinks are profound he always repeats. One is that companies use biracial couples in commercials to sell products & that makes him optimistic re: America’s future. He kinda botched it this time. https://t.co/TS1Z2N8nai

“This generation is going to change everything,” Biden said then. “We’ve just got to make sure we don’t give up. There’s an ability for us to do everything from … increase the access to education, health care — look what we did in health care, all the talk about it. I was able to reduce people’s bills about 400 bucks a month.”

“It has changed people’s lives for the better,” Kimmel agreed. “No question.”

Biden spent much of his time with the late-night comedian — in his first major sit-down interview in 118 days — blaming Republicans for his inability to get things done.

He told Kimmel that Republicans were beholden to the National Rifle Association (NRA), which was preventing him from making any progress on gun control. “A lot of it is intimidation by the NRA. Look, this is not your father’s Republican Party. This is a MAGA party,” he said.

Biden then explained that the reason he did not govern more by executive order – as some in his own party have pushed him to do — was that he did not want to be too much like former President Donald Trump. “But what I don’t want to do, and I’m not being facetious, I don’t want to emulate Trump’s abuse of the constitution and constitutional authority,” he explained.

For the sake of comparison: According to the American Presidency Project, former President Trump issued a total of 220 executive orders in his one term in office — a number of which were orders undoing the executive orders of his predecessor, former President Barack Obama. President Biden has issued 90 executive orders in just 15 months — some of which undid Trump policies — according to data compiled through April 20, 2022.
