In a statement on Monday, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) strongly criticizes the $17.6 billion proposal while emphasizing that the security of Israel should be held sacred and not treated as ⁤a political ‌game.

OMB also lashes out at House Republicans for ‍their lack of support for the bill being considered by‍ the Senate, which includes additional funding of‌ tens of billions of dollars for Ukraine.

During remarks on the White House’s veto, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) accuses Biden of ⁣betraying Israel⁤ in its most critical time.

“The President’s veto threat is an ‍act of ⁣betrayal,” Johnson states.

“Israel is at war, fighting ⁢for its very right to exist, while our brave men and women in uniform are in harm’s way on his orders to deter Iran,” Johnson adds. “In threatening to‍ veto aid to Israel‍ and to our military forces, President Biden is abandoning our ally in its time of greatest need. I urge friends of Israel and opponents of Iran to call the President’s bluff and pass this clean aid package.”

Biden’s threat to veto aid to Israel seems to ‍contradict his ‍consistent claims of ‍being a staunch supporter of the‌ Jewish ⁢State and its right to self-defense.

How might the veto threat impact the ongoing debate over aid to Israel ‍and the ‌broader US foreign policy agenda in the‍ region

The White House announced on Monday that⁣ President Biden would veto standalone legislation aimed at⁣ providing billions in security aid for Israel if it‌ reaches his desk.⁢ In a statement, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) strongly criticized the $17.6 billion proposal, emphasizing‌ that the ⁢security⁢ of Israel should be held sacred‍ and not⁢ treated‍ as a political‍ game.

OMB also criticized House Republicans for their lack of support for the bill being considered by‌ the Senate, which includes additional funding of tens of billions of dollars⁤ for Ukraine. This criticism highlights the ongoing tensions between the two major parties in ‌the United States regarding foreign aid and national security priorities.

House Speaker Mike⁢ Johnson⁣ (R-La.) responded to the veto threat by accusing President Biden of ⁤betraying Israel during its most critical time. Johnson stated, “The President’s veto threat is an act of betrayal.⁣ Israel is at war, fighting for its very right⁤ to exist, while our brave men and women in uniform are in harm’s way⁣ on his orders‍ to deter Iran.”

Johnson urged friends ⁤of⁤ Israel ⁣and opponents of Iran‌ to call the President’s bluff and pass the aid⁤ package. This strong rebuke reflects the concerns among some lawmakers⁤ and supporters of ⁤Israel that ⁢Biden’s threat to veto aid contradicts his previous claims of being a ‍staunch supporter of the Jewish⁤ State and its right to self-defense.

The issue of aid to Israel and other countries⁣ in the region ⁢has long been ‌a contentious one in US politics. Some argue that supporting Israel is essential for maintaining stability in the Middle East and ensuring the security of a key ally, ⁤while⁤ others believe that the focus should be ‍on domestic‌ issues and that foreign aid should be ⁣reduced or‌ redirected.

It remains to be seen how this veto threat will impact the ongoing debate over aid to Israel and the broader US foreign policy agenda in the region. As the situation evolves, ‌it is crucial ‌for policymakers and the public to consider the implications of these decisions ⁢on ⁣regional stability and the ⁣US’s standing in the world.
