Biden to miss 9/11 anniversary in NYC, has alternate plans.
President Joe Biden to Observe 22nd Anniversary of 9/11 Attack at Alaska Military Base
President Joe Biden will honor the upcoming 22nd anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil in a unique and meaningful way. Instead of attending the traditional observances held in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, Biden will join service members and their families at an Alaska military base.
This decision marks the first time in history that a president will not be present at the annual commemorations in these significant locations. The Associated Press has confirmed this through a thorough review of media coverage surrounding these events.
Biden’s itinerary includes a stop in Alaska for the 9/11 observance at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. This visit will take place on his return journey to Washington after attending a summit in New Delhi with world leaders and visiting Vietnam on September 10.
While President Biden is in Alaska, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, will participate in the solemn ceremony at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in lower Manhattan. Additionally, First Lady Jill Biden will pay her respects by laying a wreath at the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon.
The tragic events of September 11, 2001, forever changed the course of history. On that fateful day, terrorists hijacked commercial airplanes and deliberately crashed them into the Twin Towers in New York City’s financial district and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The heroic actions of passengers on a fourth plane led to its crash in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
These coordinated attacks resulted in the loss of nearly 3,000 innocent lives. It is worth noting that President Biden, who was a U.S. senator at the time, experienced the profound impact of this tragedy firsthand.
While the White House has not disclosed which official will participate in the Pennsylvania observance, it is clear that the administration is committed to honoring the memory of those who perished on that fateful day.
