Biden Weighs In on Expulsion of Tennessee Lawmakers, Pushes for Gun Control

President Joe Biden on Thursday criticized the ouster of two politicians in Tennessee.

” Last year, three more students and three school authorities were gunned down in yet another dreadful mass shooting in Nashville. On Monday, 7, 000 Tennesseans, many of them individuals, marched to their state senate to face on their politicians to take action and keep them safe”, Biden said in a statement issued by the White House.

The announcement came after two Tennessee House legislators were expelled Thursday from the land general assembly in a ballot by the Republican supermajority – controlled say House. There was a second House senator who was also facing eviction but hung on to her chair by a ratio of just one voting.

The proposals to remove them were introduced on April 3, after the three legislators led a group of people to resist at the legislature to request for tighter gun control laws on March 30. It came days after a dreadful killing at Covenant School in Nashville on March 27 that killed three 9 – years – aged children and three staff members of the school.

Republican state Reps. Andrew Farmer( R – Sevierville ), Gino Bulso( R – Brentwood ), and Bud Hulsey( R – Sullivan ), who filed the three resolutions on April 3, said their Democrat colleagues Reps. Pearson( D – Memphis ), and Gloria Johnson( D – Knoxville) had broken decorum by leading the demonstration in the well of the House floor, onto which hundreds of protesters flooded.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, the Democrats took to the floor on the House floor with a bullhorn in hand and cheered on the gathering of protesters, without being recognized to speak. This marked a break of bedroom standards.

The compromise to eliminate the three Democrats said they knowingly and intentionally brought” depression and disgrace to the House of Representatives” through their individual and collective activities over a close to one – minute period.

Johnson, unlike Jones and Pearson, did not implement a megaphone to spur slogans during the opposition, which may have been why she was spared from eviction.
