A poll released Wednesday shows President Joe Biden’s approval bump last month in swing states has all but vanished, with Republican nominee Donald Trump again ahead of Biden in six of the seven states most likely to impact the 2024 presidential election.
Biden is leading by 2 percentage points in Michigan but losing to Trump in North Carolina by 10 points, in Nevada by 8 points, in Arizona by 7 points, in Georgia by 6 points, in Wisconsin by 4 points, and in Pennsylvania by 1 point, according to the Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll published on Wednesday.
The results reversed Biden’s approval bump last month. The president following his State of the Union address on March 7 gained ground in six of the seven anticipated swing states, where Trump had held a comfortable lead for months, according to the March Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll.
Respondents to the Wednesday poll identified the economy as their top concern, with more than three-quarters holding Biden “responsible” and nearly half labeling him “very responsible” for the struggling economy.
“Some of the shine of the State of the Union address has worn off,” Morning Consult senior manager Matt Monday said. “People are really tying Bidenomics and their perception of the economy to the inflation rate.”
