Biden’s low approval rating raises concerns for 2024: ‘NBC poll shows it’s the lowest for an incumbent
President Biden’s Approval Ratings Plummet as Reelection Looms
President Joe Biden is heading into 2023 with alarmingly low approval ratings, raising concerns for his upcoming reelection campaign. According to the latest poll by MSNBC News, Biden’s approval rating has dropped to a record-setting low, leaving him in a precarious position.
The poll, conducted at the beginning of the year, reveals that Biden’s approval rating started at 46%, while his disapproval rating stood at 50%. These numbers were taken shortly after the 2022 midterm elections, which yielded better-than-expected results for Democrats. However, the most recent NBC poll paints a bleaker picture, with Biden’s approval rating plummeting to 40% and his disapproval rating soaring to 57%.
“That’s the lowest in an NBC poll for an incumbent facing a reelection year,” political correspondent Steve Kornacki remarked.
Comparing Biden’s ratings to those of previous presidents seeking reelection, it becomes evident that he is facing an uphill battle. Former President Donald Trump, who ran for reelection in 2020, had an approval rating of 44% against a disapproval rating of 54%. Similarly, former President Barack Obama, who sought reelection in 2012, had an approval rating of 46% and a disapproval rating of 48%.
Interestingly, the polling data also highlights concerns about Biden’s age and fitness, surpassing those for Trump, despite the latter being only slightly younger. A staggering 74% of respondents expressed either major or moderate concerns about Biden’s age and fitness, compared to 47% for Trump.
When it comes to legal troubles, both Biden and Trump faced similar levels of concern among respondents. 62% expressed major or moderate concerns about Trump’s civil and criminal trials, while 60% had similar concerns regarding Biden’s foreign business dealings with his son, Hunter Biden.
With Trump currently leading the Republican Party’s primary race, there is a possibility of a rematch between him and Biden in the 2024 presidential election. According to a Wall Street Journal poll, in a hypothetical head-to-head election, Trump received 47% of the vote compared to Biden’s 43%. When third-party candidates were included, Trump secured 37% of the vote against Biden’s 31%, with various third-party candidates, including Robert Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, garnering 17% of the vote.
As the 2024 election approaches, President Biden faces an uphill battle to regain public support and secure his reelection.

What challenges has President Biden faced in delivering on his domestic agenda, and how has this affected his approval ratings
Oval rating rising to 55%.
The sharp decline in Biden’s approval ratings can be attributed to a variety of factors. One of the primary reasons is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s handling of it. Despite promising to tackle the virus effectively and efficiently, many Americans feel that the administration has fallen short in containing the spread of the virus and distributing vaccines. The rise of new variants and the persistent high number of cases have left the public disillusioned and frustrated.
Another crucial factor contributing to Biden’s diminishing popularity is the state of the economy. While the administration has made efforts to stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities, inflation rates have soared, causing prices to skyrocket. The impact of these rising prices is felt by everyday Americans, further eroding their confidence in Biden’s ability to effectively manage the economy.
Furthermore, Biden’s ambitious domestic agenda, including infrastructure reform and climate change initiatives, has faced significant challenges. The lack of bipartisan support and the constant gridlock in Congress have hindered the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises. The disappointment in the administration’s inability to pass key legislation has led to a decline in approval from supporters who were hoping for tangible and immediate progress.
Biden’s foreign policy decisions have also garnered criticism, particularly regarding the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. The chaotic evacuation process left many questioning the administration’s handling of the situation and the potential long-term consequences. These missteps have further contributed to the erosion of public confidence in Biden’s leadership.
As President Biden gears up for his reelection campaign, it is evident that he is facing an uphill battle. The decline in approval ratings indicates a growing dissatisfaction with his performance, both domestically and internationally. To secure a second term, Biden must address the concerns and frustrations of the American public head-on. A reassessment of his policies, increased transparency, and effective communication will be critical in rebuilding trust and winning back supporters.
Moreover, President Biden must prioritize addressing urgent issues such as the pandemic and the economy. Implementing effective measures to control the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate its impact on daily life is key to regaining public trust. Additionally, comprehensive economic strategies that combat inflation and prioritize job creation are paramount to bolstering the economy and restoring confidence in Biden’s leadership.
Ultimately, President Biden’s plummeting approval ratings serve as a wake-up call. As the 2024 election approaches, he must recognize the areas where his administration has fallen short and take decisive actions to correct course. Time is of the essence, and the American people are looking for tangible results and effective leadership. Only by addressing their concerns head-on can President Biden hope to regain public support and secure a successful reelection bid.
