An unfortunate ​incident occurred at a federal gun range in Phoenix, resulting in the tragic death of a special agent from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The agency has confirmed the loss of Patrick Bauer, a 47-year-old Arizona resident. The details regarding the individual responsible for this unfortunate incident‌ have not been disclosed.

The incident took place during a training exercise on Thursday afternoon at a Phoenix gun range ​operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Charlotte M. Dennis, representing the IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) division’s Phoenix Field Office, expressed her condolences‍ in a⁤ statement. She mentioned that ‌Bauer was immediately transported ⁣to HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his⁢ injuries. Dennis emphasized that their primary concern is for the‍ agent and their family.

The FBI’s Phoenix field office has initiated an investigation into the shooting. The FBI stated that they will not‍ release details of the⁤ ongoing process to preserve the integrity and capabilities of the investigation. The findings of the FBI investigation will be handed over to⁣ the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona for review. The FBI assured that their ⁤investigation will be thorough and methodical, addressing every element of the incident.

In recent months, the activities of the IRS have ⁣faced increased scrutiny. The service’s plans to hire armed agents in all 50 states‍ to combat tax evasion have drawn ‌attention. Additionally, the organization received a substantial cash ​injection ‍as part of⁤ Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, including a‌ plan to hire 87,000 additional IRS employees⁢ over the next decade. ⁣These developments have further intensified the focus on gun violence and gun control, which are prominent issues on Biden’s public agenda.

Patrick Bauer, a retired Master Sergeant in the Arizona Air​ National Guard, leaves behind his wife and four ‍children. This⁢ tragic incident serves as ⁢a reminder‌ of the risks faced by those who serve in law enforcement.
