Voters: Biden attacks ‘led directly’ to assassination attempt on Trump

President Joe Biden’s heated verbal attacks on his reelection opponent and demand that he be stopped at all costs “led directly” to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, a huge swath of likely voters believe.

What’s more, voters believe that those attacks backfired when a lone 20-year-old rifleman tried and failed to kill Trump Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh.

According to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared fully with Secrets, 44% believe that it is now “more likely” that Trump will win versus just 13% who don’t.

Despite falsely claiming he hasn’t stirred up anti-Trump hatred, Biden and Democrat surrogates have for three years decried Trump and warned that he would destroy democracy itself if elected again.

And when asked about his recent comment that he wanted voters to put the Republican and leader of the MAGA movement in the “bullseye,” Biden scoffed with a revealing bark, “I didn’t say ‘crosshairs.’”

Rasmussen used a phrase from Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to set up this question: “Do you agree or disagree with this statement: ‘The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.’”

The pollster said 61% agreed with the statement made by Vance before he was picked by Trump as his running mate. Just 31% disagreed.

The likely voters polled, however, also believe that the potential mental health of would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks could have played a role. Some 41% said “rhetoric” caused the gunman’s actions, while 40% blamed mental problems.

Investigators have not yet explained why Crooks shot into the Trump rally, killing one and injuring three, including Trump.

The findings are in parallel with a new book Secrets highlighted yesterday by conservative activist Tammy Bruce. In an interview about her latest book, Fear Itself, she said that years of anti-Trump violent rhetoric not only normalized Trump hate but could also push a mentally unstable person over the line.

In the interview, she said the shooting “was inevitable.”

Bruce said Rasmussen’s poll captured her concerns in the book exactly: “The interesting thing is both both are correct; it’s the rhetoric that tips over the people with mental illness.”
