Biden’s Momentous Month of May: Inflation, Border Crossings Surged, Reporters Thrilled by Ice Cream Order

May was a momentous month for President Joe Biden. In addition to presiding over an unprecedented surge in illegal border crossings and inflation, Biden ordered a chocolate chocolate chip ice cream cone at the Honey Hut in Cleveland as reporters looked on in delight.

“Mr. President, what did you order?” a reported shouted during Biden’s visit to the ice cream stand on May 27. The president’s response—”chocolate chocolate chip”—elicited squeals of glee from the traveling press corps. It was one of the most significant accomplishments of his presidency.

In other news, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on Thursday that inflation surged 5 percent in the past year, the largest annual increase since the financial crisis in 2008. Core inflation, which excludes the typically volatile prices of food and energy, rose 3.8 percent in the 12-month period ending in May, the largest increase since 1992.

Vice President Kamala Harris still hasn’t been to the southern border, where the unprecedented surge in illegal crossings continues to constitute a crisis. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data published Wednesday, authorities apprehended more than 180,000 migrants along the Mexican border during the month of May. Illegal crossings, which have exploded under Biden, reached their highest level in two decades.
