Biden’s planned ICE deportations of criminal immigrants down 85% compared to Obama

According to a government document, the Biden administration has plans to deport an unprecedentedly high number of illegal immigrants convicted of crimes beyond illegal entry. This figure is about 85% lower than the peak of Obama’s administration.

Homeland Security Documents that offer a detailed breakdown of the department’s budget request for more than $60 billion in fiscal 2023 show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement Removal Operations Arm envisioned deporting 29,393 criminal immigrants this year, as well as in fiscal 2024 — a drop from last year and a significant decline from the previous two administrations.

Fiscal years begin in October and continue through September the following year.

President Joe Biden’s planned removals are dramatically lower than those of the more 199,000 criminals ICE removed in 2012 (the highest year ever recorded under former President Barack Obama). It was the highest year on record under former President Barack Obama. More than 400,000 The majority of illegal immigrants were deported after being convicted of violent crimes.

ICE was planning to deport more then 151,000 criminal immigrants during Trump’s final year of office. But, they only reached slightly over 100,000 in 2020.

President Joe Biden’s first year as a full-time president, ICE had planned to deport 91,000 illegal immigrants. However, only 38,000 were deported in 2022.

Over the past decade, ICE’s focus has shifted to Arresting and expelling illegal immigrants with criminal records . Two-thirds of those deported in 2009 were not criminal offenders and one-third were convicted felons. Obama changed the standards to put more emphasis on criminals. Over the past decade, 50-70% of deportees have been convicted criminals.

ICE has its own airline that flies people home as well as commercial passengers.
