Bill Maher compares ‘woke’ Left’s race-focused politics to KKK.

Comedian Bill Maher Compares “Woke” Left to Ku Klux Klan⁣ Mentality

During a conversation with Joe Rogan, comedian Bill‍ Maher drew a striking comparison between the “woke” Left’s‍ focus on race-first politics and the ‌mentality of the Ku Klux Klan.

Rogan had suggested that the Left should fear individuals ⁢like Maher, who represents an old-school liberal unwilling to conform ⁢to the party line.

“You’re like a ’90s liberal,” Rogan remarked. “You’re like ‌liberals back when they⁣ were more ⁤reasonable, before they became⁣ leftists, and now every liberal, kind of, has to be a leftist. … If‍ you want ‍to be on the team, you’ve got to subscribe to the most fringe ideas that the ‌team is promoting.”

Rogan expressed his frustration with the fact that liberals are expected to agree⁢ with each other on every issue, stating⁤ that it’s “weird” to have such a‍ requirement.

Maher’s Distinction Between Liberalism and “Woke” Ideology

Maher emphasized that being ⁤”woke”‍ is not synonymous with being a liberal. He argued that while one can embrace⁣ the‍ “woke”⁢ ideology,‍ it often contradicts the ‌principles of liberalism.

“I’m always trying to ⁤make the case ⁢that liberal is a ⁣different animal than ’woke,’ because ‍it is,” Maher explained. “You can be ‘woke,’‌ with all the nonsense that that now ⁣implies, but don’t say that‍ somehow it’s an extension of liberalism ⁤because ⁤it’s ⁢most‌ often actually an undoing of liberalism.”

Maher pointed to the traditional liberal view of a ⁢”color-blind” society,⁢ championed ‌by figures like ⁢President ‍John F. Kennedy ‌and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as an example. ‍He ⁢argued that the “woke” ideology, which prioritizes race ⁤above all else, diverges ‌from this liberal perspective.

“That’s not what the ‘woke’ believe,” Maher stated.⁣ “They believe race is, ‌first-and-foremost, the thing you should always see everywhere, which I find interesting ⁣because that used to be the position ⁤of the Ku Klux Klan, that we see race first-and-foremost everywhere.”

Maher⁣ concluded by asserting that while individuals are entitled to hold ‌the “woke” position, it should not⁣ be labeled as a liberal stance. He emphasized that ‍it represents something entirely different.

Rogan added that the “woke” Left’s attempt to uplift minorities ‌may⁢ be aimed at addressing societal imbalances, but true‌ equality can ⁣only⁣ be achieved by disregarding race and ⁣evaluating individuals solely ‌based on their merits. He also highlighted the importance of acknowledging and addressing ‌the real problems ⁢faced by ‌disenfranchised communities in the United States.

“If ⁢we don’t address the⁢ problems ⁢in this country as far as how disenfranchised some people⁣ are and how horrible some communities are that⁤ people grow up in, and people find⁣ themselves stuck in with no recourse, no ‍way out, no role models … no⁤ financial ‍opportunities ⁣… that’s what our real problem is⁤ in this country, more than it⁢ is race,” Rogan‌ argued.

“It’s extreme⁢ poverty and extreme crime, and these things don’t get addressed ‍over and over and over again,⁣ and, in fact, a lot of the policies you see ‍coming from ⁤places like San Francisco and Portland … they just exacerbate it.”
