Former Democratic New Mexico Governor and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Bill Richardson, Passes Away at 75
In a heartfelt statement on Saturday, the Richardson Center for Global Engagement, the organization he founded and led, announced the peaceful passing of Bill Richardson at his home in Massachusetts. The world mourns the loss of a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to serving others.
“He lived his entire life in the service of others — including both his time in government and his subsequent career helping to free people held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad,” expressed Mickey Bergman, the center’s vice president, in a statement to the Associated Press.
“There was no person that Gov. Richardson would not speak with if it held the promise of returning a person to freedom. The world has lost a champion for those held unjustly abroad and I have lost a mentor and a dear friend.”
Bill Richardson’s unwavering commitment to justice extended beyond his political career. Following his time as governor, he dedicated himself to the noble cause of freeing Americans who were unjustly detained overseas.
A Legacy of Service
Prior to his governorship, Richardson served as former President Bill Clinton’s U.N. Ambassador and energy secretary. He also represented New Mexico as a congressman for an impressive 14 years.
Bill Richardson’s impact on the world will be remembered for generations to come. His tireless efforts to bring freedom to those in captivity and his unwavering dedication to public service have left an indelible mark on our society.
