Congress receives urgent bill to defund Special Counsel Jack Smith: ‘Immediate action required!’
Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz Aims to Defund Special Counsel Investigating Trump
Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida is taking a bold stance against the special counsel investigating former President Donald Trump. Gaetz hopes to short-circuit the potential second federal indictment against Trump by pulling the plug on the funding for the investigation.
On Tuesday, Trump made a shocking announcement, revealing that he expects to be indicted by special counsel Jack Smith. Smith is currently investigating whether there was any “unlawful interference with the transfer of power” following the 2020 presidential election, particularly on January 6, 2021.
Last month, Smith secured an indictment against Trump, accusing him of mishandling classified documents. This has only fueled Gaetz’s determination to stop the investigation.

Gaetz took to Twitter to announce his plan, stating, “I will be introducing legislation to DEFUND Jack Smith’s witch hunt against President Trump. They are attacking our democracy and engaging in election interference right now. The United States Congress has the capability to stop this election interference, and we must act immediately!”
In a video accompanying his post, Gaetz emphasized the urgency of the situation, saying, ”In the coming hours, the coming days, I will be introducing legislation under my name in the House of Representatives as a freestanding bill to defund the Jack Smith investigation. We have to stop sending money to this.”
The bill introduced by Gaetz is straightforward, stating that Smith should not have access to federal funds. Gaetz’s call to cut off funding for Smith follows a similar proposal made by Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia last month.
Greene also took to Twitter to express her support for defunding the special counsel’s office and investigation. She wrote, ”This morning, I’m writing an appropriations rider to DEFUND Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office and entire investigation. I will not vote for ANY appropriations bill to fund the weaponization of government. I hope every one of my Republican colleagues will join me.”
Jack Smith has weaponized the federal government against President Trump in a complete lie about January 6 to cover up the crimes of Joe & Hunter Biden and their entire criminal family.
The Democrats want to arrest every one of their political opponents.

Greene continued to criticize Smith on Twitter, accusing him of weaponizing the federal government against Trump and covering up the alleged crimes of Joe and Hunter Biden. She wrote, “Jack Smith has weaponized the federal government against President Trump in a complete lie about January 6 to cover up the crimes of Joe & Hunter Biden and their entire criminal family. The Democrats want to arrest every one of their political opponents.”
Both Gaetz and Greene are determined to use the power of appropriations to stop what they perceive as the weaponization of government. They believe that the investigations should focus on individuals like Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, whom they consider to be the true criminals.
As the debate over the funding of the special counsel’s investigation intensifies, it remains to be seen how Congress will respond to Gaetz and Greene’s calls to defund Jack Smith.
