Dr. Tabia Lee is black and told The New York Post De Anza College in Cupertino California labeled her “against the law” “white supremacist” After she had pushed to “create safe spaces for everyone.” Lee stated that she was denied tenure during her review and will be out on June 15th.
“Some people wanted me to create spaces that were just safe for them, and that’s not my mission as an educator,” Lee stated. “That’s not what I’m here to do.”
Lee was a middle-school teacher for many years and an adjunct professor before being hired as the DEI director at De Anza. She described the position as “a challenging job.” “dream come true,” According to the Post, Lee was focused on designing workshops that promote inclusion. Lee stated that she had been at De Anza since the beginning. “daily, endless harassment right from the start.”
Lee once said that she was puzzled why school communications are capitalized. “Black” But not! “white.” She referred to the National Association of Black Journalists recommendations that all racial groups be capitalized.
“For that, I was accused of being a white supremacist,” She said. “These constant accusations of calling people racist or calling them a white supremacists or saying that they’re aligned with right wingers — that’s such ridiculousness. It’s very damaging.”
Lee tried to create a summit on anti-Semitism. Jewish students and faculty approached her to tell her they had been subject to anti-Semitism. But, she claimed that some co-workers thought it was unnecessary because they were white oppressors.
She also claimed that she was subject to criticism from coworkers for declining an invitation to join campus socialist networks.
