“Blue Beetle” Director Deletes Tweet Wishing Assassination on President Donald Trump, Claims Puerto Rico Is a “Slave Colony”
The director of ‘Blue Beetle’, Ángel Manuel Soto recently deleted a tweet where he expressed his hope that President Donald Trump would be assassinated, akin to what happened with President Abraham Lincoln.
On August 7th, 2018, Soto took to Twitter writing, “The only thing I hope Trump has similar to Lincoln’s presidency is the way it ended.”
The tweet was still available on Twitter as of last night, until Lofti Pixels shared the tweet to his account causing Soto to end up deleting the tweet. Cottees tweeted that the tweet was deleted around 3:49 AM on April 4, 2023.
The deletion of the tweet took place after Soto was criticized for including George Lopez’s “Batman is a fascist” line at the end of the ‘Blue Beetle’ trailer. To this, YouTuber Ryan Kinel said, “At the end, the Batman is fascist. This is pandering to these stupid f***ing 20 year-old free profile picture she/them who do not know what their f***ing gender is, who do not buy comics, who do not have money to go to movies. That’s who that f***ing s**t is pandering to.”
“‘Batman is a fascist.’ F*** off with that. That’s so stupid.”
Soto replied with three laughing emojis and a Skeletor gif that reads, “Well, my job’s done,” to CBMovieFan’s tweet that George Lopez says, “Batman is a Fascist” and it made him very angry.
Soto would also use a similar gif in response to another user pointing out that certain people were upset with the “Batman is a fascist” line in the trailer. Instead of Skeletor, Soto used a President Barack Obama gif dropping a microphone. He captioned it, “My job here is done.”
Soto, apart from hoping for the assassination of Donald Trump, also claimed that Puerto Rico is a “slave colony.” “Puerto Rico is a slave colony of the USA. Your passport was imposed on us, so there is nowhere else to go after your country sh**s on my land and blames us for the stink. F*** you,” he tweeted back in August 2018.
Ironically, during a Q&A session at a trailer launch, Soto had requested members of the media and potential moviegoers to support the film by saying, “If you’ll help us and this movie becomes a massive f***ing hit, we’re going to see a lot of those [characters]. That’s what needs to happen. If we want to see more variety and really celebrate differences, celebrate culture, celebrate other worlds because it’s fun. The lores are so spectacular. The only way is by supporting movies. Supporting a movie like this.”
