Blue State Exodus Accelerates
Republican-controlled states saw an influx of residents in 2022 as the exodus from high-tax states accelerated.

To identify domestic migration patterns, the analysis uses United States Postal Service Change-of-Address data. A change-of-address request is typically filed by people who want to forward mail from their homes to their new residences. NAR found another reason Americans chose to move to Republican-led States last year: Strong job markets.
“Among the top 10 large areas with the highest inbound move rates, not only was their economy able to recover all the jobs that were lost at the beginning of the pandemic, but there are about 5% on average more jobs now than in March 2020 in these areas,” The analysis concluded.
The pandemic caused a more rapid recovery of the employment market than the national trend.
Many people are considering moving to big cities such as New York, San Francisco, and Chicago.

In its report, the NAR pointed out that many of those areas where people relocated were in economies that had been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
