Bob Barker, iconic ‘Price is Right’ host, passes away at 99.
Former television host Bob Barker dies at age 99
Former television host Bob Barker, known for his iconic role as the host of The Price is Right for 35 years, has passed away at the age of 99. Barker’s tenure on the show included a remarkable 3,524 episodes, making it the longest-running game show in television history. Throughout his career, Barker’s television programs awarded an astounding $55 million in prizes.
A spokesperson for Barker confirmed that he passed away from natural causes. His contributions to The Price is Right were recognized with 23 Emmy Awards, including accolades for outstanding game show host. In July 2007, comedian Drew Carey took over Barker’s position as host, but has yet to win an Emmy in that role.
An advocate for animals
Barker was not only known for his television career but also for his dedication to animal welfare. He used his platform to raise awareness and promote the well-being of animals throughout his life.
In 1994, Barker faced a lawsuit filed by Price is Right model Diane Parkinson, who accused him of sexual assault. Barker vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that their relationship was consensual. At the time, Barker had been a widower since 1981 when his wife of 40 years passed away from lung cancer. Parkinson eventually dropped the lawsuit.
Parkinson’s lawsuit led to another legal battle when fellow model Holly Hallstrom filed a wrongful termination lawsuit the following year. Hallstrom claimed that she was fired because she refused to defend Barker and was asked to spread false information. The lawsuit was settled outside of court.
Barker’s wife Dorothy Jo Giden preceded him in death, and the couple did not have any children. He is survived by his half-brother Kent Valandra.
