The legendary game show host Bob Barker passed away at the age of 99, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. According to his death certificate, Barker battled Alzheimer’s Disease along with other contributing factors.
Barker peacefully passed away at his California home late last month, leaving behind a void in the entertainment industry.
News outlet TMZ first reported that Barker had been battling Alzheimer’s for years, a diagnosis that had not been made public until recently.
“We lost a beloved member of the CBS family today with the passing of Bob Barker,” CBS said in a statement. ”During his 35 years as host of ‘The Price Is Right,’ Bob made countless people’s dreams come true and everyone feel like a winner when they were called to ‘come on down.'”
Barker’s death certificate, viewed by KABC-TV, listed hypertension, hypothyroidism, and hyperlipidemia as contributing factors to his passing.
Hyperlipidemia, also known as high cholesterol, is a condition that affects the heart, according to the American Heart Association.
Hypothyroidism, on the other hand, is a condition where the body lacks sufficient thyroid hormone, resulting in a slower metabolism, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.
Barker, known for his charismatic hosting style, had faced several health challenges in recent years. TMZ reported that he had numerous emergency medical calls to his Los Angeles home for falls and back issues.
Hosting “The Price Is Right” for an incredible 35 years, from 1972 to 2007, Barker became an iconic figure in daytime television. His passing has left a void in the hearts of fans worldwide.
“Bob was one-of-a-kind; he’ll be remembered as an extraordinary host, a devoted animal activist, and, as he would put it, ‘a loyal friend and true.’ We’re so pleased to be able to salute his many accomplishments and honor his memory in this way,” said Margot Wain, Senior Vice President of CBS’ daytime programs.
In honor of Barker’s legacy, CBS aired a special tribute hosted by his successor on ”The Price Is Right,” Drew Carey. The one-hour special, titled ”The Price Is Right: A Tribute To Bob Barker,” aired on Labor Day.
Born on December 12, 1923, in Washington state, Bob Barker will forever be remembered as a television icon and a true legend.
