Border Patrol Union criticizes DHS for alerting illegal immigrants about “focused enforcement” in Texas.
The Border Patrol Union Slams DHS for Public Warnings of “Targeted” Immigration Enforcement
The National Border Patrol Council, the official union of the Border Patrol service, criticized the Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday for its public warnings of “targeted” immigration enforcement. The union called it a “sad joke” and a “pandering PR stunt” after Homeland Security announced that Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would conduct a targeted enforcement operation in El Paso, Texas. The operation is set to take place ahead of Title 42 ending on Thursday, which is expected to cause a surge of migrants at the US border.
Union’s Response to DHS Announcement
- “Nothing like publicly announcing that dangerous people will be arrested, while warning them ahead of time exactly where to run and hide to avoid arrest.”
- “This entire operation is a sad joke – another pandering PR stunt.”
- “Serious law enforcement leaders don’t behave this way.”
The union’s official Twitter page also criticized Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Vice President Kamala Harris, calling them “clowns.”
Concerns Over DHS Announcement
Border Patrol agents expressed frustration over the DHS announcement, with some saying that the operation will now be worthless. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin noted that the announcement essentially gives migrants a heads up that they are coming, making it easier for them to evade arrest. El Paso has already been overwhelmed by thousands of fresh arrivals, with an estimated 80,000 South American migrants behind them in Guatemala, heading for the US.
Union’s Warning
The Border Patrol union warned that after Thursday, the massive crush of illegal aliens coming through the border will make the last two years look like amateur hour. It also criticized President Biden for not knowing how to contain what he’s unleashed and for having a “clown” running DHS and a worse “clown” as VP.
