Border residents captivated by DeSantis’ plan to halt illegal immigration: ‘His sincerity is undeniable’
EAGLE PASS, Texas — Residents Welcome Gov. Ron DeSantis for Border Visit
Residents in the border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, were thrilled to receive a visit from 2024 Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) on Monday. This town, like many others along the border, has been dealing with the challenges of illegal immigration and community releases for a long time. The arrival of Gov. DeSantis brought hope and optimism to the people, who believe he can make a difference in controlling the border.
One resident, Alison Anderson from the nearby town of Del Rio, expressed her support for Gov. DeSantis and his promise to take action against cartels, smugglers, trafficking, and lawlessness along the southern border. She believes that enforcing immigration laws is crucial and that there should be consequences for those who break the law.
During his visit, Gov. DeSantis made a major policy announcement and unveiled his border security plan to the residents at the local VFW Hall. This was his second visit to a border town, following his stop in Arizona earlier in June. The fact that he took the time to listen to the concerns of the people and present his plans to address them was greatly appreciated by the residents of Eagle Pass.
Tony Castaneda, a former chief of police in Eagle Pass and a resident of the nearby town of Quemado, attended the event because he believed in Gov. DeSantis’s sincerity and commitment to taking action. He sees immigration as a significant concern in the area, especially for those who own property along the border.
Gov. DeSantis has been proactive in addressing illegal immigration, even frustrating Democratic politicians in Massachusetts and California by flying immigrants to their states. He has also signed an anti-illegal immigration bill into law in Florida. The crowd at the event applauded when Gov. DeSantis mentioned transporting immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard.
The community of Eagle Pass, along with the Hispanic Republicans of Texas PAC, expressed their gratitude for the genuine concern and assistance provided by elected officials like Gov. DeSantis and Gov. Abbott. Both governors have worked together to share resources and personnel, with Florida providing significant support to Texas in terms of border security operations.
Florida has deployed over 1,100 personnel, including highway patrol troopers, National Guard soldiers, and emergency management personnel, to assist Texas. They have encountered thousands of illegal immigrants and made numerous arrests related to human smuggling, drug paraphernalia, and unlawful carrying of weapons. Florida has been the most active state in providing assistance to Texas, along with 13 other states.
While Gov. Abbott is also considered a potential Republican presidential candidate, he has not yet entered the race. The collaboration between Gov. DeSantis and Gov. Abbott demonstrates their commitment to addressing the challenges faced by border communities and securing the border.
Overall, Gov. DeSantis’s visit to Eagle Pass brought hope and reassurance to the residents, who believe that he can make a difference in controlling illegal immigration and improving border security.
