Teenager Shot⁤ During Police Shooting ⁢in Carlsbad

In ⁣a shocking incident on September 9th, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the right ​arm during a confrontation ‌with police ‍officers in Carlsbad, San‌ Diego. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours, leaving the community in shock.

According to San Diego ⁤police‌ Lt. ‌Jud ⁢Campbell, the teenager was⁤ accompanied by an adult and three other ‌teenagers‌ who ​were parked in a ​truck at a dirt lot near⁣ the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Palomar Airport Road. The⁢ officers approached the vehicle⁤ around 12:45 a.m. and noticed⁣ alcoholic beverages inside.

Paramedics swiftly arrived at the scene​ and ‍rushed ⁢the injured teenager to ‌a nearby hospital. Thankfully, his injuries ‍were not life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.

Confrontation Escalates

The situation ⁣took a​ dangerous turn when the 16-year-old exited the vehicle without ⁣being asked to do so. Allegedly, he⁢ began reaching ⁣under the passenger seat, causing concern among the officers.

“Officers immediately ordered‌ him to stop ​reaching under the seat. The juvenile pulled a firearm from ⁤under the ⁢seat and turned in the ‍direction of​ one of the officers,” explained ⁤Lt. Campbell.‌ “In response, one officer fired ‍a‍ single shot​ from ‍his service ​weapon, striking‍ the juvenile.”

After being​ shot, the boy fled towards the ocean, either jumping or falling down a cliff. However, officers‍ were able to apprehend‌ him and take‍ him ⁤into custody. During the arrest, a firearm was discovered in the vicinity ⁢of the apprehension site, which is currently being processed by detectives.

The officer who discharged his weapon has been with the department⁤ since May 2023 and was assigned⁣ to patrol duty.
