Kari Lake Announces Decision to Run for US Senate
Republican Kari Lake made a bold announcement on Tuesday, declaring her candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Arizona in 2024. Speaking to a passionate crowd in Scottsdale during her campaign kickoff, Lake expressed her belief that God has bigger plans for her, referencing her near win for governor last year. She emphasized her determination to fight for the future of our nation and our children, stating that we have one year to save this country.
Lake aims to replace Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who has yet to confirm if she will run for re-election. The leading candidate for the Democratic nomination is Rep. Ruben Gallego. On the Republican side, Lake’s primary opponent is Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.
An August poll conducted by Emerson College revealed that Lake is currently leading the GOP primary race with 42 percent support, followed by Lamb with 11 percent. The survey also showed that Lake has a significant advantage over the 2022 GOP Senate nominee Blake Masters. However, 28 percent of respondents remained undecided.
Lake’s rise to prominence in the Republican Party began with her unexpected victory in the 2022 GOP gubernatorial primary race in Arizona. The chaos surrounding the election, including malfunctioning ballot printers in Maricopa County, and her subsequent legal challenge of Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs’ win, have only bolstered her standing nationally.
Speculation about Lake’s Senate run started circulating as early as January, with rumors suggesting she would challenge Sinema for her seat. Sinema faced a primary challenge from Gallego, who aligns more closely with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
Recent polls indicate that a three-way race between Lake, Gallego, and Sinema would be highly competitive. A survey commissioned by Gallego’s campaign showed him leading with 41 percent support, followed closely by Lake with 36 percent, and Sinema with 15 percent. Another poll conducted by National Research Inc. showed Lake in the lead with 37 percent, Gallego at 33 percent, and Sinema at 19 percent.
