BREAKING: Police Officer Shot After Responding To A Fake 911 Call Set Up To Ambush Him

Newsweek reports a gunman ambushed a Tennessee police officer who responded to a fake call.

The perpetrator, identified as 22-year-old Salman Mohamed, allegedly shot Officer Brian Sherman before turning the gun on himself late Tuesday night.

The department reportedly tweeted a picture of Sherman with the caption, “BREAKING: Officer Brian Sherman is bring treated at Vanderbilt for gunshot wounds to his left arm. Sherman was hit while answering a call of a woman shot at 7220 Sugarloaf Dr. That call was a setup to get police to respond[.]” He was released later that night.

Officer Brian Sherman, a two-year veteran of the Metro Nashville Police Department, was reportedly shot just after 6 p.m. while responding to a call of an active shooter.

“Now it’s clear that the phone call to the communications center about an active shooter-that his mother had been shot-was a ruse, a setup to get police to the scene. No one else in the home was injured,” Police department spokesman Don Aaron said.

Aaron further stated the responding SWAT officers had body cameras, but by the time they arrived at the scene, the gunman had already killed himself. According to Arron, Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department have responded to “some very dangerous calls” in recent weeks.
