BREAKING: Rapper DMX Dies Aged 50, One Week After Heart Attack, According To Family. ‘A Warrior Who Fought Till The Very End’

According to reports, rapper DMX has died at the age of 50 after being hospitalized and on life support for one week following a heart attack.

“Multiplatinum rapper DMX has died at the age of 50 a week after being hospitalized following a heart attack, according to a family statement released Friday,” reported the Associated Press.

“DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had been in ‘grave condition’ in a New York hospital after suffering a heart attack on April 2,” the AP added.

On April 4, it was reported that “Multiplatinum rapper DMX has been hospitalized in grave condition, according to his lawyer,” and that the rapper was “currently in a White Plains, New York, hospital after suffering a heart attack, attorney Murray Richman confirmed to WABC Saturday afternoon.”

“I received the call this morning that he was in the hospital,” Richman stated, saying that he had spoken with Simmons’ family about his client’s condition. “He is in grave condition, whatever that means. That’s exactly what I’ve been told.”

“The rapper’s publicist, Matt Oliver, said Saturday evening that Simmons no longer needed to be on life support, only to later backtrack and say he believes he’s still on life support,” the earlier report added.

After confirming Simmons’ death, his family released a statement.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” they wrote.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.

People Magazine also reported that the hospital providing his care said, “White Plains Hospital extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Simmons, as well as his friends and legions of fans who expressed their unwavering support during this difficult time. Earl Simmons passed away peacefully with family present after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest.”

DMX first entered the world of rap music with his 1998 album, “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot,” which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. His other chart-topping albums include “…And Then There Was X,” “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood,” “The Great Depression” and “Grand Champ.” He also appeared in several movies, and reportedly battled with substance abuse.

“The rapper canceled a series of shows to check himself into a rehabilitation facility in 2019. In an Instagram post, his team said he apologized for the canceled shows and thanked his fans for the continued support,” the Associated Press reported, adding that “Last year, DMX faced off against Snoop Dogg in a Verzuz battle, which drew more than 500,000 viewers.”
